Bausvault’s 63 Man Caves
“Man cave” is a dirty word around here, for reasons you can probably guess and upon which I may opine some day. So when the online retailer Bausvault reached out to me yesterday sharing a recent post called “63 Man Caves That You Need To See,” I told them it wasn’t quite up our alley — indeed one of the man caves includes an alley for rolling balls at pins.
But I took another look at the gallery and there were in fact some fine images with books instead of foosball tables. Here’s what caught my eye, and here’s where you can see all 63.
My ideal library/den is some combination of pictures 2, 3, and Henry Higgin’s library in My Fair Lady. Leather overstuffed chairs, a fireplace, and a wet bar complete the vision.
I, too, abhor the pejorative term “man cave.” I’m looking forward to your essay on the subject.
Yes. Den, study, or even office are infinitely preferable terms. Man Cave implies all kinds of philistine and cretinous behaviors in which a certain kind of manchild (and there are too many) continues to revel well beyond the age of seven or eight. Need I say anymore?
