Boutet De Monvel Auction At Sotheby’s
Ah, April in Paris. That’s where you’ll want to be in a couple of months when Sotheby’s auctions off a major collection of the works of the elegant Boutet de Monvel. The collection was preserved by his descendants in his own studio. Monvel died in 1949.
Check out Sotheby’s wonderful video here.
I really enjoy this blog. I know you stay busy with Ivy Style, however I wish you could develop this more.
It would be difficult to enjoy Ivy League influenced clothing and not be a little Victorian in all other areas as well.
Thanks for the kind words, Roger. I’ve been pitching a book on the topic but it’s stalled as acquiring images would be a nightmare, especially with no budget for original photography.
But I do enjoy the topic immensely and plan to keep it in my back pocket, so to speak. We’ll see where it goes.
I just took a look at some of Boutet de Monvel’s work. I was really captivated by his art. You will have to make reference to it on Ivy Style so more people can be exposed to it. I loved his self portrait.
Can’t believe I’m just finding this blog. I’m truly in heaven. Thanks for the glorious inspiration! Haven’t seen older posts yet, but how about a piece on sculpture (horses, stags, dragons, tigers, etc.) or busts (Napoleon, Caeser) as masculine objet d’art? Or travel bars?
I’m currently trying to perfect the English country manor umbrella stand with bamboo-handled umbrellas, Irish blackthorn shillelagh, silver-handled canes, etc.
