Einstein’s Desk

einsteins-desk-when-he-died

This is Albert Einstein’s desk as he left it on the day he left the Earth in 1955. It looks like the desk of a man who was active and mentally fertile until the end. I hope I leave the world with tobacco in my pipe and a pile of papers on my desk.

Time Magazine has a great story on the photo shoot from that day, which occurred just hours after Einstein’s death.

And I have a strange six-degrees-of-seperation connection to the scientific genius. Back in the late ’90s his great-grandson was a coworker at a regional business magazine in Northern California. He was selling advertising, after previously selling oranges in Hawaii.

Lively wit. Played a mean violin, too.
