Recently I saw a piece in the New York Times about artist Theaster Gates, who bought an old bank building in Chicago for $1, raised $3.7 million to rennovate it, and turned it into the Stony Island Art Bank. If you like leafing through books, especially about African American history, this would be the place to go.
