Collecting Vintage Menswear Posters

PKZ-1

Yesterday I was going through some of my old writings (thinking how they might make for an amusing volume of bedside reading), when I stumbled across an article, completely forgotten, that I did for The Rake a few years ago.

It’s on collecting vintage menswear posters from the turn of the century through the Art Deco period and up to the 1950s. When I read the first line, I felt a tickle of the hand of fate at work as it eerily presages this website:

There comes a point in the life of any instinctively elegant man where he must face the question of how to appoint his living quarters.

The piece is entiteld “Commercial Gains” and bears the subhead “Whether contemplating a dabble in the world of art investment or a stultifying blank wall, gems from the golden age of Art Deco menswear advertising offer a perfect solution.” Click here for a PDF.
